Our Giving Tree

Mosiah 4:26 And now, for the sake of these things which I have spoken unto you—that is, for the sake of retaining a remission of your sins from day to day, that ye may walk guiltless before God—I would that ye should impart of your substance to the poor, every man according to that which he hath, such as feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and administering to their relief, both spiritually and temporally, according to their wants.

As one way to help minister to each other in a temporal way, we are offering the “Our Giving Tree” tab on our blog. The purpose of this page is to connect sisters who have things they no longer need with sisters who are in need of those items.

For example: Sister A has a nice rocking chair that is sitting collecting dust. She would like to use the space it occupies for something else but she is not quite sure what to do with the chair. Sister B has a fussy new baby who needs to be rocked to sleep and needs a rocking chair. Sister A posts her rocker on our blog. Sister B sees the post and contacts her to get the rocker & both of their needs are met. Or, conversely, Sister B posts that she is in need of a rocker. Sister A contacts her to let her know she has one and, again, both sisters have their needs met.

Please understand that you do not need to be “poor” by the world’s standards to post a need for something here or contact someone for their item. “Poor” can simply mean lacking that needed item. Often we are not poor because we are wise with how we utilize available resources. Remember, as illustrated in the example above, that receiving items can be just as great a way to love & serve as giving them.

“Our Giving Tree” Rules & Regulations:

1.       All items offered or requested need to be sent to the Temescal Canyon Relief Society email address temescalcanyonreliefsociety@gmail.com.  Please allow a couple of days for your post to be placed on the blog.
2.       Any item offered or requested will be reviewed by the Relief Society presidency prior to posting.  Items that are determined to be in conflict with LDS church standards will not be posted. For example: anything illicit, illegal, offensive, inappropriate, etc.  Basically, if you would feel uncomfortable approaching the Savior with it, don’t offer it to your sisters.
3.       Photos of the item are welcome but they must be of the actual item you have on hand, in its present condition.  No stock photos.  Also the photo needs to meet the standards outlined in the above regulation (2).  Photos should be sent in .jpeg format.
4.       All items offered are to be offered for FREE.  No obligation of any sort, financial or otherwise should be imposed on the receiver.
5.       Items should be clean and in good repair. Think of the condition you would like it to be in if you were receiving it.
6.       If you are requesting an item, be sure it is something you want the whole Relief Society to know you need and not something you should approach one of the Relief Society Presidency or the Bishop about in private.
7.       For privacy purposes, only the name of the individual offering or requesting will be posted.  Interested parties will need to obtain additional contact information from a mutual contact or the ward directory.  (Available online at lds.org with your church user name & password).
8.       Once an item is posted, you will have the responsibility to contact each other to figure out the details.  The Relief Society Presidency will not serve as a middle person between parties.  You will also be responsible to work it out between yourselves if an item does not meet your expectations.
9.       The Relief Society and ward will not be held responsible for any item offered or requested.
10.   Posters are to notify the Relief Society Presidency via the above email (1) when their item is gone, request met, or otherwise want their post removed.  Please allow a couple of days for your post to be removed from the blog.
